Where Discovery Brings Hope

As many of you know Rascal Flatts holds the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt very near and dear to their hearts. Their involvement with this wonderful facility has brought awareness that many would not have experienced otherwise.  Pediatric hospitals are not where parents want to be, however it is a blessing to have such advanced medical institutes that specialize in the care of children. Vanderbilt is more than a hospital, it is a beautiful, caring and somewhat whimsical home at one time or another for so many very sick children and their families.

The following presentation was aired December 10, 2010 for viewers in Nashville, Tennessee and the surrounding areas. The wonderful staff at Vanderbilt has made this available for all through you tube. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did and please share it with your friends.

Last, I know times are difficult for many but if you can give anything to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital or if there is a hospital in your home town that is dedicated to making a difference in children's lives, please do what you can, no matter how large or small, your contributions can help to brighten a day or save a life.

Children and their families turn to the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt for hope and healing from some of America's best physicians. But there's more to the story than that. Join Rascal Flatts for a look inside how Vanderbilt doctors and scientists are researching solutions to childhood cancer, heart disease, diabetes, obesity and the effects of premature birth. Find out how you can be part of giving hope to all children through these discoveries.

    Rascal Flatts Receive Decade Award

The following is straight from the News page on Rascal Flatts Fan Club. I can't begin to tell you how happy I was for Rascal Flatts; Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney when they received this honor. To see the standing ovation and to feel a genuine happiness that they were receiving long overdue recognition for their contribution to country music touched me.
Add to the honors received at the American Country Awards; the success Rascal Flatts is having with Nothing Like This debuting at #1 on Billboard's Country Album list (six albums in a row ~ amazing!) and Why Wait declared #1 on Billboard's Country Singles list is proof that there is so much more to come.  Rascal Flatts, your fans are all looking forward to the next 10 years!!

    Congratulations Rascal Flatts!!!

By Debut Single for Big Machine Records, “Why Wait,” Lands #1
The best selling country group of the new Millennium, Rascal Flatts, was honored with the “Decade Award” by the American Country Awards this evening during a live broadcast on Fox from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. This award recognizes the band for their contribution to country music in the past ten years.
In other great news, Rascal Flatts’ debut single on Big Machine Records, “Why Wait,” tops the Billboard Country Singles & USA Today/Country Aircheck charts today and becomes their twelfth career #1 single.
Since their musical debut in 2000, Rascal Flatts-Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney- has sold 20 million albums and 25 million digital downloads. The band has delivered 12 #1 singles to the top of the chart and has more titles in Billboard’s Top 100 Songs of the Decade than any other group in the format. With the #1 debut of their new CD, Nothing Like This, Rascal Flatts has the distinction of being one of only 4 acts to have 6 consecutive studio albums debut in the top spot on the Country Albums chart this decade. Nothing Like This also debuted at #6 on the Top 200 chart.
Rascal Flatts is the most awarded country group of the decade with nearly 40 trophies from the American Country Awards, Academy of Country Music, American Music Awards, Country Music Association, People’s Choice Awards and more.
In concert, Rascal Flatts continues to be one of the hottest touring acts of the decade with more venue attendance records than any other country act. They have played over 400 dates as a headline act, over 700 since 2000, with a ticket tally of nearly 6 million. Among these shows includes 3 consecutive sold-out performances at Madison Square Garden and the band also became the first and only country music act to sell out Wrigley Field.
Gary, Jay and Joe Don have also raised over $3 million dollars in the past few years for the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tenn. and recently the hospital named its pediatric Surgery Center after the group- the “Rascal Flatts Surgery Center.”

Rascal Flatts Joins Elite Walk of Fame Class

Rascal Flatts and four members of the Country Music Hall of Fame will all receive additional recognition next month when they’re embedded in the Music City Walk of Fame in downtown Nashville.

Little Jimmy Dickens, Kris Kristofferson, Mel Tillis and the late Eddy Arnold — all of whom have bronze plaques nearby in the Hall of Fame — will have their names etched in the pavement alongside Rascal Flatts Nov. 7. So will the late Bobby Hebb, a Nashville-based artist who earned a 1960s hit with “Sunny.”

A project of the Nashville Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Walk of Fame is sponsored by GAC, Gibson Guitars, Metro Parks and the City of Nashville.

The sidewalk markers are set in a prime location. Walk of Fame Park is located on Demonbreun between 4th Street and 5th Street. Across the street on the southern side of the park is the Country Music Hall and Museum. Immediately to the west of the park is Bridgestone Arena, where the Country Music Association presents its 44th annual awards Nov. 10, three days after the Walk of Fame ceremony.

Two of the new inductees, Mel Tillis and Kris Kristofferson, were regulars at Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge, a bar just two blocks away from the park where country stars and songwriters gathered regularly during the 1960s. Kris and Mel will co-host a celebration of Tootsie’s 50th anniversary at the Ryman with Terri Clark the same night they join the Walk of Fame.

The new entries bring the total number of plaques in the Walk to 48. A few of the previous inductees: Reba McEntire, Marty Stuart, Steve Wariner, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Ronnie Milsap, Trace Adkins, Dolly Parton, Josh Turner and Martina McBride.

VANDERBILT UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER'S WEEKLY NEWSPAPER

Rascal Flatts honored for tireless support

    BY: CHRISTINA E. SANCHEZ

10/28/2010 - Award-winning music group Rascal Flatts is being honored today at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital for their unwavering devotion to the care of children.

Rascal Flatts has raised nearly $3 million over the past several years through concerts and other events, and they also have spent generous amounts of time with children and families. Money from their fundraisers will be used to build a new specialized radiology suite.

As a tribute to their continued dedication, Children's Hospital administration will unveil the naming of the pediatric surgical suite as the “Rascal Flatts Surgery Center.”

“In honor of the extraordinary philanthropic commitment of Rascal Flatts to our patients and families at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital, we are truly delighted to announce the naming of the new Rascal Flatts Surgery Center,” said Jonathan Gitlin, M.D., James C. Overall Professor and chair of the Department of Pediatrics.

“Most importantly, this center, which houses all our existing and new surgical programs, will become the home for our new state-of-the-art interventional radiology suite for the care of children with heart disease, cancer and other critical surgical and medical problems.”

Rascal Flatts members, whose photos and albums decorate walls in Children's Hospital, said they are humbled by the generous display of appreciation.

“We became involved with the work at Children's Hospital so that children will continue to have a wonderful place to get better and to help their families move on with their lives,” said Gary LeVox. “We have built some long-lasting relationships, not only with the staff, but with some of the kids and their parents as well.”

Rascal Flatts' contributions will allow Children's Hospital's surgery center to develop a new interventional radiology suite to expand services offered to families.

Pediatric surgeons and radiologists will use the suite for challenging surgical issues that involve procedures such as liver transplants and difficult abdomen and chest infections.

Designs have been drafted to build the suite on the third floor of the hospital.

It will include high-tech radiology equipment and devices, including a bi-planar imaging system.
More than 12,700 pediatric surgeries are performed each year at Children's Hospital.

Doctors conduct general and specialized surgeries on children, from infancy to adolescence, to address a myriad of congenital and acquired health conditions.

“We are so fortunate to have forged a relationship with Rascal Flatts. I continue to be amazed, as I have told them, by their level of commitment to this hospital,” said John Brock III, M.D., surgeon in chief of Children's Hospital. “Their gift to develop an interventional radiology suite will allow us to further our services for children.”

A sign that bears the group's name will adorn the entrance to the surgery center.

“All parents and children who enter the area will walk under the Rascal Flatts sign, but the words we write will never adequately express what they have done and how people like them, as well as others, allow us to do what we do,” Brock said.

Unstoppable ~ #1 Across the Nation

Wouldn't it be nice to read stats like this again with the release of Nothing Like This next month? This is a post from Rascal Flatts last year that Joe Don had referenced in his second blog on MySpace.

Rascal Flatts are #1 Across the Nation | 04.15.2009

Accolades pour in with #1 selling CD Unstoppable and #1 single “Here Comes Goodbye”

Any way you look at it, Rascal Flatts is #1! Today the band’s new CD Unstoppable opened at #1 on the Nielsen Soundscan Top 200 and Country charts with 351,000 units sold, making it the top selling CD across all genres of music. This marks Rascal Flatts’ fourth consecutive studio album opening atop the Top 200 chart, more than any other country artist in the history of Soundscan. This also establishes Rascal Flatts fourth consecutive debut at the top of the Nielsen Soundscan Country Top 75 sales chart. With 351,000 units sold, Unstoppable is also the biggest country release of 2009 and the biggest country first week sales since Taylor Swift’s Fearless in November 2008. The chart-topping sales also qualify it as the second biggest unit debut of the year for all genres, behind only U2s No Line On The Horizon.

Included in the first week sales for Rascal Flatts’ Unstoppable are more than 58,000 digital album units, making it the top selling digital album in all genres this week, outselling the #2 digital album by 2 to 1. Unstoppable is the band’s biggest selling digital album debut on record and the second highest country digital debut in the history of Nielsen Soundscan. The project sold an additional 118,000 in individual track downloads with the #1 smash single “Here Comes Goodbye” taking the lead as the most downloaded song from the album. 555,000 individual track downloads have been sold to date.

At the same time Unstoppable opens at #1, the project’s lead single “Here Comes Goodbye” is also the #1 country single in America and the band’s eleventh #1 single. When the song was released to iTunes last month it broke the record for the largest first week digital scans for a country debut single with 126,000 copies sold. Rascal Flatts also make a cameo appearance in the nation’s #1 movie, Hannah Montana: The Movie. In addition, Rascal Flatts was recently awarded their seventh consecutive ACM Vocal Group of the Year trophy, making them the most awarded group in the category.

Tomorrow Rascal Flatts will appear on Late Show with David Letterman and Fox News Channel’s Hannity, rounding out a week that also included stops at Ellen and Dancing With The Stars.

Unstoppable, co-produced by Dann Huff and Rascal Flatts, is the band’s first studio album since 2007’s multi-platinum Still Feels Good and their fourth consecutive CD to top the Nielsen Soundscan all genre Top 200 chart.

Since their career launched in 2000, Rascal Flatts has sold close to 20 million albums, scored 10 #1 singles and 18 top 10 hits and each of their five studio albums are multi-platinum sellers. They are the reigning AMA, CMT, PCA, ACM and CMA Vocal Group of The Year and were honored as the 2008 Academy of Country Music/The Home Depot® Humanitarian Award recipients. This honor, in part, due to their dedication to raising funds for the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, where in the past 4 years they have donated 3 million dollars, as well as their work on the American Red Cross Celebrity Cabinet board.

I WON a Crush TV Limited Edition Bow!!!

<----<< Look at what I won!!!!  I have really been having a great week and have got to share with all of you guys my most recent win. I received a call Tuesday, October 5th that just blew me away!

I am a member of The Crush Road Crew. For those of you that are not familiar with The Crush; it is a hunting show on the Outdoor Channel that is hosted by Lee and Tiffany Lakosky.  The Lakosky's are two of the best I have ever seen. They are amazing hunters, funny and in all honesty their love for each other shows during each and every show. They may pick at each other but it is quite obvious that they are incredibly happy.

Anyway, not only do they have a very successful TV show they also have a web site full of videos, photos and a store that carries their Crush gear and clothing (some really cute stuff too!). I signed up for the Road Crew there which gives me access to behind the scenes videos, photos, recipes and little extra off coupons for the store. PLUS as a Road Crew Member I am eligible for special contest :) like the one I just won, OMG still can't believe I won!!! They also gave away a hunt with Lee and Tiffany to one lucky Road Crew Member recently who will no doubt never forget the experience. And given this is going on my Flatt Dog Pound site, yes Gary does go hunt with them and they are great friends. Last year Gary killed his biggest buck ever while out with Lee and Tiffany and the bow he used for that kill was autographed and given away in a drawing to a lucky Road Crew Member earlier this year.

Now, I have to tell you the enthusiasm Lee and Tiffany have for hunting motivated me, gave me the desire to try it.  I have never hunted before watching The Crush ... I have friends and family members who are hunters and this was to be my first season hunting with them.  My brother has a bow that he has been sharing with me because I didn't have one.  But now, thanks to Lee and Tiffany Lakosky and The Crush TV and Mathews Bows and Red Bone Entertainment I will have my OWN incredibly awesome Limited Edition Crush TV Bow!!

        Thank you Tiffany and Lee!
I am such a happy Crush girl right now!!!

Rascal Flatts is Kicking some .... you know!

I gotta tell you I was kinda worried as I started checking numbers on the Billboard Eventful 2010 Fans' Choice Award for Best Tour of the Year.  There were big numbers at the beginning of the list for people that were not country then when I hit the country bands WOW low numbers!

Then I said a prayer and clicked on Rascal Flatts page only to be blown away by the number! OMG was it gonna be small, I was worried I mean, the likes of Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood were just in the very very very LOW 1000s so what could I expect from my Flatts. YOU know I am hoping that they are at least in the ball park with the other high number bands but I was wrong! They were out of the park a grand-slam home run!!!

OK I know you want to know the numbers and I am not going to post everyone right now only the one I care about, LOL RF of course and the next closest band.

Metalica of all bands (LOL Yes I like some of their music too) is the closest to any of the bands in this battle they have 58,787 favorites right now but that can not even compare to Rascal Flatts ......drum roll please 116,843 favorites!!! OMG check that out people a 58,056 lead almost DOUBLE what the closest band has!!....Great work so far everyone but this competition continues until November 1 so don't think it is in the bag; please keep encouraging your friends to demand Rascal Flatts!!!!

Brothers ~ A story by Cledus Judd

Cledus Judd read a story he wrote about not having a brother and how Gary Levox of Rascal Flatts helped fill that void in his life. Very touching story. Listen here :)

Cousins have more in common than Rascal Flatts

We all know that Rascal Flatts consist of cousins Jay DeMarcus and Gary LeVox along with their good friend and I believe adopted family member Joe Don Rooney. Well, the cousins Jay and Gary have more in common than Rascal Flatts.

First they were both born in Columbus, Ohio and they both have the middle name Wayne. Plus both are married to women with the middle name Leigh and their wedding dates are the same, both married on May 15th...different years. And come January 2011 they will both have children with the same middle name of Leigh, which is as stated earlier the little girls mothers middle name.

I just thought it was interesting how that all worked out :)

Jay and Allison DeMarcus reveal baby's name

Country Weekly reports that Jay and Allison have announced the name of their little girl expected in January. Their little bundle of joy will be named Madeline Leigh with Maddy being the name she is know by.

According to Country Weekly Jay has told them, "Leigh is Ally's middle name and we finally settled on a [first] name that we both liked together," and he is more than ready for the birth of his first child. Jay states "This is a part of my life I've wanted for some time and just had to wait a little longer to get there." and "I'm really excited and can't wait to kiss [her] face off,"

We will be watching and waiting for more from Jay and Allison as the expected arrival date of their little girl gets closer.

Rascal Flatts Gets Country Weekly Cover

I am so excited I just have to share with everyone! Country Weekly has tweeted that Rascal Flatts has the cover issue November 15, 2010! I don't know about you but I will be buying out my local store *silly grin*

I have sent letters and tweeted them links to my facebook group and I know I am NOT the reason but I like to think that myself along with all the members of my group and the fans that are not members that have been campaigning for this are at least partially responsible.

Going to go do a Happy Dance around the house now!

        Congratulations Rascal Flatts!!!

        Just for fun...

This is old...2 years actually and is specail to me. I had just completed a mission that was posted in the Flatt Dog Pound encouraging people to vote for Rascal Flatts for Favorite Band, Duo or Group and Favorite Album (Still Feels Good).
        Remember this banner?

        Photobucket

Along with others fan club members and Rascal Flatts' Street Team I posted it on MySpace, Facebook and Bebo doing what I could to help the guys win. We all worked hard on this mission and Rascal Flatts walked away with the Favorite Band, Duo or Group Award (they still are to me :)) It was also at that time I was given the honor of being their North Carolina Street Team Leader, so when they did this video I was officially one of their Street Team Leaders and a very proud member of their Flatt Dog Pound.

Like I said earlier, this video is old and the flattdogpound.com does not work right now...IDK why?

Just thought I would share a fond memory.

Rascal Flatts Parties It Up in Las Vegas

I believe most Rascal Flatts fans have seen the new video for Why Wait. You may already know Gary, Jay and Joe Don went to Vegas for a few days to party with a wide variety of individual that as you will see made cameo appearances in the new video.  They also performed music so we got some of them doing that in this video as well.  The video is a fun spoof of The Hangover and from the looks of things Rascal Flatts had a good time making it.

So if you have not see it, check it out here ....

So what do you think? How many of the cameo's can you name? Leave a comment and share your thoughts.

        Great Day in Columbus, Ohio

Previously I posted that Rascal Flatts along with Hershey's would be treating tailgating fans to S'mores before the OSU game on September 11, 2010 and then singing the National Anthem during pregame activities.

I am happy to report that it was a successful day for both Rascal Flatts and OSU Buckeye's.  As you see from this photo Rascal Flatts was able to complete their joint mission with Hershey's, then they performed beautifully and Ohio won!

"We're doing the build it, wrap it and grill it with S'mores," LeVox explained of his S'mores making strategy.

What a great day for Rascal Flatts members Joe Don Rooney a native of Oklahoma, Jay DeMarcus and Gary LeVox both from Ohio, as they becoming the first people to ever sing the National Anthem during the pregame festivities.  I am sure this day held special meaning to Gary who is an alumni of Ohio State University.

"There is nothing like Ohio State Buckeye football," said lead singer Gary LeVox "Especially for Jay and I being back home, we grew up right here and we bleed scarlet and gray."

Regulars on the Ohio State campus, attending day practices this year with the approval of their close friend, Jim Tressel. Before the game Gary LeVox was heard joking ...

"We've drawn up a few plays [for him]"

And on a more serious note he also noted ...

"Coach Tressel is one of the finest men on the planet. He's not only a great coach but his heart and who he is as a person is actually maybe more magnificent than his coaching abilities."

~ Congratulations Rascal Flatts & OSU Buckeyes well done! ~

        Never Forget

Like so many I will never forget where I was when I heard the news on September 11, 2001.  I sat at my desk with the radio on in disbelief and shock at what was happening. When the report of the first plane was issued like so many others I thought it was a terrible air catastrophe and prayers began immediately. Then the next plane and then another and another.  My disbelief, my shock soon turned to fear. The questions started running through my mind as my fear of what could happen next begin to surface. Is this only the beginning? Will there be more cities randomly hit by our own aircraft? Who is doing this, who is attacking my country?  WHY?  I don't understand why would someone do this? This was a cowardly act, attacking innocent civilians who were sacrificed for what? What evil force was behind this? Please, make it stop!

Next my thoughts turned closer to home. The are military bases in North Carolina and I have family at Pope Air Force Base in Fort Bragg. Would they be attacked as well?  My mind reassures me that they must be on alert by this time. They are elite, they are equipped and trained, they will be ok. I believed that to be true, no matter what happened next.

Then I saw the images...the devastation, the people. My heart broke. The innocent lives that were being lost before my very eyes. Numb from shock I sat and stared at the TV not wanting to believe what was happening. Tears .... all I could do was watch as the tears ran down my face.

Out of no where, the shock broke long enough for me to thank God for my family. They were safe. I felt selfish but couldn't help it.

I spent the next several days watching the footage, over and over wondering how this could have happened.  Listening for the report that more survivors had been found. Praying for families I didn't know and for God to bless the souls of those that had been lost.  I thanked God for every life that had been spared, I kissed my kids more and told people that I loved them. We all plan for the future, thinking I'll do that tomorrow, but this horrendous day instilled in me, you are not guaranteed a breath beyond the one you just took so be sure to let the ones around you know what they mean to you.

I want to close by saying, I will never forget that day. My prayers go out to the many families that lost loved ones. The children that will never know a parent, the husbands and wives that said their last goodbye that morning,  the moms, dads, brothers and sisters that saw lives cut short.  And the best friends who lost confidants and childhood friends, you are remembered too.

I will never forget your loss that September morning....your country will never forget.
