Rascal Flatts Visit Children's Hospital

In October 2011 the men of Rascal Flatts ... Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney spent some time visiting and performing for the children and families at the Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville, TN. This is a ritual that they have been part of for several years and it is a heart warming and  emotional day for each of these three men. Over the years Rascal Flatts has raised approximately $3 million through concerts and auctions for the hospital; but more than money Rascal Flatts has built relationships with the staff and given their time and love to the many children and families that have crossed their path along the way.

Watch the video below for a heartwarming look at a day with Rascal Flatts and the children of Vanderbilt.

Rascal Flatts Fan Club Annual Christmas Toy Drive Needs Your Help

Ok everyone it is that time again!! A little reminder that Rascal Flatts has a fantastic Fan Club with some really wonderful people. Among them, Velvet Arrington or ~V~ as she is lovingly known.  She heads up a toy drive every year for the children and families that spend their Christmas at the Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville, TN.  ~V~ Packs up her car and personally delivers these items from her home in South Carolina to the hospital each year. She can't do this without our support. Please send her a little something off her list.  No matter how big or little the gift is everything counts. Let's make ~V~ rent a U-Haul for this year's trip :)

One more thing, the Christmas season is celebrated differently by many cultures. Please refrain from using any specific phrase such as "Merry Christmas" on any item or card you send.  The children and their families my not celebrate the season as Christmas but as Hanukkah for example.  A more general greeting such as "Happy Holiday's" or "Season's Greetings" work well in all cultures :)

If you are interested and would like to be a part of this beautiful cause, please email ~V~ at arringnl@gmail.com for her mailing address and any questions you may have.  Your contribution will brighten the lives of so many.

Deadline to have items to ~V~ is Dec. 10th, 2011... Please ask others to get involved as well.

Calling all Rascal Flatts Fam

Everyone knows how much Rascal Flatts cares about Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. They give of themselves time and time again as they reach out to the children, families and staff. Their support and presence can not be denied from the hugs, songs and joy they spread to the financial support they have supplied over the years. They are respected and loved; so much in fact that they were honored by Vanderbilt with the Rascal Flatts Surgery Center.

Rascal Flatts Fan Club (Fam) is also involved with charitable work for the children and families at the hospital. As visitors, patience and employees walk through they will see a wall of butterflies on polls with handles that the children can turn to make the polls spin.  These butterflies are labeled with the names of people that have contributed money or items such as the toys sent at Christmas along with lots of LOVE. High among the butterflies you can find one that is labeled Rascal Flatts Fam as testament to the contributions from their Fan Club. How sweet is that?

Rascal Flatts fans are awesome and tend to support the same causes (there are many!) that the band does. To us they are more than entertainers, they have heart.  Among the fans there are many that contribute resources, but there are a few very special ladies that each year undertake the tremendous task of putting together a huge toy drive at Christmas and fund raisers year round.  Heading up these ladies is Mrs. Velvet Arrington,  ~V~  as she is know throughout the fam. ~V~ works a lot of long hours and I have personally seen her literally chase down Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney for their personal input into her latest project, which is why I am calling on all Rascal Flatts Fam.  Below is a message I received today from ~V~ PLEASE help out if you can. I for one am very eager for this process to be completed. I know ~V~ has been working on this OVER 2 years, that my friends is dedication. Let's help her finish the book THEN lets buy it!

Thank you everyone that has contributed or that is going to contribute to this wonderful project. There is one catch though; you have to be FAM to contribute so if you are not you can join the Rascal Flatts Fan Club (All Access) or become a member of the Rascal Flatts Flatt Dog Pound (Street Team). There is a fee to join the Fan Club but the Street Team membership is free.

A note from Velvet...

Please copy and send the message below to FAM members and make it your status as well. I am asking you for your help. There is many many Fam members who are not on the boards but are on FB. Please help!!!! Please do this... This is our support not just to RF but for the hospital and the children. I need the recipes by Sunday the 26th. Everyone has Fam friends. :)
--If you are RF FAM member or street team, we need your recipes... Please email the recipes to arringnl@gmail.com. We are on a limited time frame. Be a part of the fund raising cookbook for Vanderbilt Childrens Hospital.-- Thank you!!!!

Where Discovery Brings Hope

As many of you know Rascal Flatts holds the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt very near and dear to their hearts. Their involvement with this wonderful facility has brought awareness that many would not have experienced otherwise.  Pediatric hospitals are not where parents want to be, however it is a blessing to have such advanced medical institutes that specialize in the care of children. Vanderbilt is more than a hospital, it is a beautiful, caring and somewhat whimsical home at one time or another for so many very sick children and their families.

The following presentation was aired December 10, 2010 for viewers in Nashville, Tennessee and the surrounding areas. The wonderful staff at Vanderbilt has made this available for all through you tube. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did and please share it with your friends.

Last, I know times are difficult for many but if you can give anything to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital or if there is a hospital in your home town that is dedicated to making a difference in children's lives, please do what you can, no matter how large or small, your contributions can help to brighten a day or save a life.

Children and their families turn to the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt for hope and healing from some of America's best physicians. But there's more to the story than that. Join Rascal Flatts for a look inside how Vanderbilt doctors and scientists are researching solutions to childhood cancer, heart disease, diabetes, obesity and the effects of premature birth. Find out how you can be part of giving hope to all children through these discoveries.

Congratulations Rascal Flatts

Gary, Jay and Joe Don, you three are heroes to so many for so many reasons.  Among them are the children, families and staff at the Vanderbilt Children's Hospital.  It is fitting that the new Surgery Center should bear the name of Rascal Flatts as your love, compassion and commitment to the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital touches the heart and lifts the soul.

VANDERBILT UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER'S WEEKLY NEWSPAPER

Rascal Flatts honored for tireless support

BY: CHRISTINA E. SANCHEZ

10/28/2010 - Award-winning music group Rascal Flatts is being honored today at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital for their unwavering devotion to the care of children.

Rascal Flatts has raised nearly $3 million over the past several years through concerts and other events, and they also have spent generous amounts of time with children and families. Money from their fundraisers will be used to build a new specialized radiology suite.

As a tribute to their continued dedication, Children's Hospital administration will unveil the naming of the pediatric surgical suite as the “Rascal Flatts Surgery Center.”

“In honor of the extraordinary philanthropic commitment of Rascal Flatts to our patients and families at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital, we are truly delighted to announce the naming of the new Rascal Flatts Surgery Center,” said Jonathan Gitlin, M.D., James C. Overall Professor and chair of the Department of Pediatrics.

“Most importantly, this center, which houses all our existing and new surgical programs, will become the home for our new state-of-the-art interventional radiology suite for the care of children with heart disease, cancer and other critical surgical and medical problems.”

Rascal Flatts members, whose photos and albums decorate walls in Children's Hospital, said they are humbled by the generous display of appreciation.

“We became involved with the work at Children's Hospital so that children will continue to have a wonderful place to get better and to help their families move on with their lives,” said Gary LeVox. “We have built some long-lasting relationships, not only with the staff, but with some of the kids and their parents as well.”

Rascal Flatts' contributions will allow Children's Hospital's surgery center to develop a new interventional radiology suite to expand services offered to families.

Pediatric surgeons and radiologists will use the suite for challenging surgical issues that involve procedures such as liver transplants and difficult abdomen and chest infections.

Designs have been drafted to build the suite on the third floor of the hospital.

It will include high-tech radiology equipment and devices, including a bi-planar imaging system.
More than 12,700 pediatric surgeries are performed each year at Children's Hospital.

Doctors conduct general and specialized surgeries on children, from infancy to adolescence, to address a myriad of congenital and acquired health conditions.

“We are so fortunate to have forged a relationship with Rascal Flatts. I continue to be amazed, as I have told them, by their level of commitment to this hospital,” said John Brock III, M.D., surgeon in chief of Children's Hospital. “Their gift to develop an interventional radiology suite will allow us to further our services for children.”

A sign that bears the group's name will adorn the entrance to the surgery center.

“All parents and children who enter the area will walk under the Rascal Flatts sign, but the words we write will never adequately express what they have done and how people like them, as well as others, allow us to do what we do,” Brock said.
